Although Sir Julius Vogel and the Premier spoke very strongly against Mr Pearson's resoltution, Htlirming the desirableness of the Government collecting the contributions towards charitable aid on a Property Tax basis, it was carried a little after 1 o'clock on Thnrs<hty morning, in an amended form, on the casting vote of the Speaker.
