Ml Yeats's prizes were awarded lo those pupils who had made the higl vat aggrre.ite m irks in the quarterly examinations of their classes, while tiie prizes for the most popular bov mid girl in the school, were awarded on the votes of the children theniselve-. Amongst the boys there, wa* a tie 1-etivvcnJ Millet and S. McMillan but on t lie second voting the latter was the victor. The prizes having been distributed. Mr Yeats impressed on the parent- >:»l children the. necessity of regular attendance' if satisfactory results wen t • bo attained, and pointed out that the fault was often rather that of the parent--. Under the regulations they were supposed to turn out children like a batch of loaves.
Mi Millar proposed a hearty vote cf thanks to the teachers and said he had great pleasure in being present. He referred in a highly complimentary manner to the work done by .Mr Yeats si.ico he had taken charge of the school, e.nJ pointed out that he required not only tho sympathy of the children but that of tha parents in < ■-.loj to bo successful in his work. He oil great pleasure in rpcakuig highly of Mr !. its nul of his discipline. He was -lire the prizes had been awarded with full justice by the teachers. Ho asked them to give hearty votes of tk-anka to their teachers, MrY’cats and Miss Soiled*.
The vote, were earned by acclamation. Mr Yeats m returning thanks referred to tl'.e pleasure he had in teaching the children. .« On the motion of Mr ileese, three hearty cheers were given for the donors of special prizes, and thanks were returned hy Mr Haggen. Mr JlcCarvllo took tho importunity of referring to the memory of the late Mr Corbett, who had been for some time chairman of the committee and had worked np the concert which provided tho money for the prize*. He proposed a hearty vote ->f thanks to tho chairman and members of the .School Committee. The following is the prize list; — Task Pkizks.
