NOTES FROM BLENHEIM.

(From our own Correspondent). The latest addition to the river fleet is a 20-ft. oil-launch, built by Mr 0. Norgrove to the order of Mr H. Lucas, to run on the Opawa River. The building trade continues brisk. Mr Fawcett is erecting a handsome two-storey residence for Mr R. Jenkins, of the Bank of New South Wales, in Muller Road, and a number of cottages are being erected in all parts of the town.

Mr Pease has resigned his position of Borough Engineer and Manager of the gasworks, and it will be left to the new Council, shortly to be elected, to decide whether the two positions shall be filled separately. The demand for building sites still continues, and a local firm of auctioneers have purchased a seven-acre section near the bowling green, and are putting a 66-foot road through the block, which will be cut up into building sites. These should find ready sale, being in the best part of the Borough. The late rains, followed by bright, warm days, have caused a remarkable growth of grass for the time of year—more like Spring than Autumn—and an abundance of green feed for the Winter is assured, causing an upward tendency in the price of sheep. The oil-launch Naomi has been purchased from her Nelson owners and placed in charge of Captain J. Stevens. She will be engaged in the fishing trade, and will also run excursions to the Wairau Bar, for which purpose she is specially suited, having a large cabin and being fitted with all conveniences. Mr Nicoll has purchased the launch built by Messrs Gosling and J. Kennington, and is putting in a more powerful engine and fitting her for the fishing trade..
