FOOTBALL.

The annual meeting of the Canvastown Football Club was held at the Pelorus Hotel on Saturday night. There was a very good attendance of old and new members, and Mr J. Godfrey was voted to the chair. The balance sheet showed that the Club were in credit to the extent of £3. The election of officers resulted as follows;—President, Mr H. Atmore; Vice-Presidents, Messrs A. W. Dillon, W. Hunter, W. H. Smith, J. Dalton, and John Brownlee; Club Captain, Mr H. Spears ; General Committee, Messrs A. Lloyd, J. Ryan, A. Reade, R. Murray, D. Murray, F. Clark, E. Coleman ; Selection Committee, Messrs J. Godfrey, A. Reade, H. Spears, D. Murray, J. Hughes; Ground Committee, Messrs A. Josephson, L. Simonsen, A. Lloyd, H. Spears, D. Murray, and J. Ryan ; Hon. Secretary, James Hughes, Jun. (re-elected). The subscription was fixed at 2s 6d for members over 16 years and at Is for members under that age. It was decided to get some of the stumps taken out of the football field, and to make the ■ ground the proper length and width.

_ A discussion took place on the question of joining the Rugby Union. Messrs Godfrey, Reade, and Spears warmly advocated joining, illustrating their remarks by recalling incidents during last season's play. It was eventually unanimously resolved that the Club join the Union as juniors, but that they would not enter for the Cup competition. On the recommendation of Rev. W. B. Scott, Mr A. Reade was awarded Mr Dillon's medal for the best back player during last season, and Mr E. Coleman the medal for the best forward. It was decided to open the season with a " scratch " match at Canvastown on 13th April. "The Bush" intend forming a Club of their own, but most of their men being members of the Canvastown Club will be available to play with the latter in a match against an outside Club.
