PICNIC AT ELI BAY.

(From our own Correspondent), The picnic given by the Eli Bay Regatta Committee passed off very successfully on Saturday last. It was originally intended to have the picnic on Friday, but in consequence of the inclemency of the weather it was deemed advisable to postpone the function until the following day, when there was a large attendance of Sounds settlers. The Committee deserve credit for the wholehearted way in which they devoted themselves to making the day a thoroughly enjoyable ono. Sports were organised for old and young, and it is not too much to say that to both they afforded a few hours’ pleasant amusement. In the evening a dance took place, which was largely patronised, and during its course the evening was enlivened by songs and recitations. On the advance of the Sabbath morning the company heartily joined in singing “ Auld Lang Syne,” and departed to their respective homes. Any notice of the gathering would be imperfect were not reference made to the kindness of Mr Ross, of the Sounds Dairy Factory, and of his brother-in-law, Mr Christiansen, in supplying excellent music throughout the evening.
