Redwood’s Blight Specific.

Among our enterprising settlers who have passed a busy lifetime in the Colony, and while manfully facing the ups and downs always experienced in new countries, have still devoted a great deal of time and experiments to counteract some of Nature’s baneful effects, is a gentleman who we are pleased to think is now on the sure road to realise a substantial reward for his perseverance. For many years past Mr Charles Redwood has studied to provide a certain remedy for the various blights which are such a scourge to our orchards, and has now succeeded in producing a specific cure for all these pests, at a . cost which will commend itself to all those interested in fruit growing. We have recently ascertained from a most reliable authority who had visited Mr Redwood’s orchard, that large trees which had been covered with blight have now a clean bark, with healthy shoots spreading out in all directions, where, formerly, it was only an eyesore. The last year’s return gave him over £IOO from the trees on three-quarters of an acre of ground, and in this district Mr C. H, Mills has an orchard which was rapidly going to decay, when he applied some of this blight specific and at first was rather disappointed in the results, but he now finds it was a hasty judgment, and can safely recommend it, as the trees are nearly recovered, and another dressing will make the cure complete, but at the same time we commend our friends not to overlook this fact, that the roots of all trees require sustenance as well, and a good top dressing of manure around the butt not only helps the tree to throw off these vicious parasites, but will materially assist its fruit-bearing capabilities.
