Fruit Export.

The Am ruwh correspondent of th Auckland Herald wires ; —The import of j/reeii fruit from the colonic have not by any meana taen a» larg-* ai was expected. Tlie last steamer up the Mariposa, brought some apple.from Sydney which came in fine condit ion, and met with ready sale. Main times the quantity could have been dis posed of at profitable, figures, for tin fruit was fresh and crisp in comparison with the Californian apples kept ovet from last fall. In fact, there was no comparison at all. The Mariposa also brought some fresh grapes from Honolulu, a decided novelty in the Californian market at this season. They brought a fancy price, of course. Considering the enormns shipments of apples to Australia and New Zealand last September and October, we had a right to expect more fruit in return in these months, when Californians are hungering for good apples. If it is a question of doubt as to what the fruit will bring the colonists need have no fears. All the apples or other fruits which arrive here iu the months of February, March, April, May, and even June (though' not much dependence can be placed on June) and in fair to good condition will bring excellent returns. Apples are wanted more than anything else, and will, of course, stand transportation much better than anything else. The Californian fruit-dealers intend to make heavy shipments to the colony this fail certainly the largest they have ever made. The fruit crop this year will be the largest and finest ever known in California,, and the colonists can dt-pend on sharing in it, and in the raisin and

dried and canned fruit product as well
