The Electoral Boundaries.
Prom a letter received from the Chairman of the Boundary Commission it will be seen that the Commissioners have not been able to accede to the request of the settlers of this district to make it more in accord with community of interest. As the district stands now it will be one of the worst in the colony for a candidate to canvass. It is so scattered and of such an extent that whoever may contest the seat will have a most unenviable task before them, but as the Commissioners have decided the matter we presume the wisest plan is to make the best of it.
A somewhat peculiar accident happened to Mr W. Kruse, of Nelson,, last week, which unhappily proved fatal. He was seated on a load of straw, and at the railway crossing was caught by the telegraph wires and thrown violently to the ground, and expired shortly afterwards. The funds of the Wellington Benevolent Institution have lately been heavily burdened with the maintenance of numbers of deserted wives, mostly those of men who have gone beyond the colony, leaving their families utterly dependent on public charity.
Many people were rather disappointed when they discovered that a certain case which promised to be “ spicy ” did not come on for hearing at the R.M. Court on Wednesday. The balance-sheet of the Dunedin Exhibition Company shows a debit of £SOOO, against which are the buildings and unpaid calls. '•
Messrs Macey, Paul, and Carter were voted for membership of the Education Board by the Spring Creek School Committee on Monday evening. J. H. Redwood, Rowden, Soper, and James Gane were the only persons nominated for the Spring Creek : Road Board on Tuesday. In another column will be found a telegram to the effect that Dr McLeod, who was lately arrested at Napier, has been committed for trial on a charge of bigamy. There is also an interesting account of his career in this issue.
Miss Crawford, who has been a teacher in the Blenheim public school for the last five, years, was presented with a lever watch ,on the occasion of her leaving for the Waimate district.
