MANAROA REGATTA.

H. Godsiff, F. Kerr, W. T. Masefield, N. Harvey, jun., W. Henderson, jun., T. Gullery, L. Borck, jun, J. Stewart, I*. G. Pahner, R. Ewing, H. C. Harris, D. Mills, Committee; G. H. Toswell, Starter; J. A. Collect, Secretary. The above regatta, was held in Clbva Bay on Monday last, and was & most successful affaw. Seeing that boating will always be the chiet means of communication in these sounds it is well that every encouragement should be given to the rising generation to become expert in the management of boats, and no better means could be adopted than by holding annual contests of this kind. As time goes by and the sounds get more thickly populated, these annual events will become more and more important, and who knows but what our young men may be able to compete in the acquatie contests in the outside world, and we, too, may be able to product a Hanlan, a- Beach, or a Searle. The favourite steamer Waitapu was engaged to take passengers from tne Pelorus district, and one hundred availed themselves of the opportunity of having a pleasant trip down the sounds, Between sixty and seventy were taken from Havelock, about twenty from Cullensville, and the remainder were picked up along the sounds. The Waitapu left the Havelock wharf at half-past eight, and Arrived at the Manaroa wharf at a quarter to twelve. The trip down was most enjoyable, and every one appeared to be on pleasure bent. The officers and crew of the Waitapu were most obliging, and every thing, went merrily along, with the exception at times when one put his hand into his pocket to bring lorth an apple he found a potato in its place, hut, although it was not on the programme, it caused as much amusement as anything. The various events were fairly well contested, and a good deal of interest was taken in the results. The Committee are to be congratulated on the success of their first regatta, and we have no doubt these annual contests will increase in importance year by year, and will be looked forward to with a great deal of interest. The trip home was not quite so pleasant, as a cold south wind was blowing, and the visitors to the regatta were not at all sorry wh«n they arrived at the wharf, about ten o’clock.
