ARM-CHAIR CREEK.

From a correspondent we are able to' gather some interesting particulars, regarding this creek. He states that it is intended to commence working on the New Start claim, and considers the prospects are good, -|dwt to 2dwt to a barrow of wash-dirt having been obtained; but the tail-race is not deep enough to work the ground, and it will be necessary to . work it with machinery. From calculations made he thinks it will be thirty feet in the centre of the creek at the rate it is dipping, a§ the beach js oyer a chain Svide at this point. He caiffiot'understahd how it is that there is not more attention paid to this part of the district by the outside public. Ih the matter of prospecting, there is room for 2,000 miners in this small river. There are beaches from one to five chains wide, and flats from five chains wide to half-a-mile; also river-beds and terraces. The main bottom of this creek has never been seen by any person. Thei’e is no doubt but what there are very rich of gold on the bed of this creek, and there is every indication to confirm that opinion. Gold was got out of all the tributaries coming injfcp the creek, but none of them were very rich, but this fact ism favour of the main creek as it indicates that all ; the gold-has been ■ washed down. ■ Our correspondent considers that if the matter : was properly put before the Government they would give such assistance as would prove the prospects of the creek. The country in these parts contain good, reefs and good specimens have been obtained, but there has been no prospecting done in that direction.

During the past twelve months no less tfyan 10i50 ipiner’s rights have been issued at the Warden’s office, mouth. This does not look as if the mining industry was falling off.
