GISBORNE HARBOR BOARD.
Vn ordinary meeting of the Harbor Board icld last evening was attended by the ihairman (C. A. DeLautour, Esq), Messrs Townley, Wilson, Kenny, Brown, Joyce, Iraham, and Hepburn. The minutes and correspondence were .ealt with in the usual way. Mr. John Thomson wrote from New ’lymouth offering his services as engineer o the Harbor Board. The letter was eceived. Payments as follows were passed : — Wharfinger’s salary, /6; Ferryman, for ipproaches to ferry, fit 10s ; T. Adams tationery, £1 10s 6d. The secretary mentioned that the wharf itore at present was unoccupied. It had jeen suggested that shippers should be 1 lowed to use the shed for twenty-four sours free of charge, and make a charge or a longer period. Mr. Graham thought it inadvisable to lo anything in the matter, the present joard being almost a defunct body. Mr. Townley suggested that the shed •hou'd be let week by week at £1 per veek. Mr. Brown seconded the proposition, vhich was carried. ’The Chairman pointed out that it was necessary to appoint a returning officer or the Board. Mr. Townley proposed, and Mr. S. M. Wilson seconded, That Mr. F. J. Piesse >e appointed to the ofir e. Carried. It was decided that the clerk consult with the county officers and ascertain the nost suitable course of procedure for the elections, and that the Returning Officer >e requested to attend the next meeting if the Board to discuss the question. The Chairman was appointed a memjrr of the Finance Committee, za’ce Capt. Porter, whose term of office has expired. T his concluded the business.
