[Per United Press AssnoTATioN,] Taupo, December 18. Twenty-five of Te Kooti's ragamuffins passed through here yesterday, en route for Wairoa. To Kooti only came with them as far as Te Waotu. It is rumored that a much larger body of natives is going to the East Coast from the Waikato and Urewa country. Christchurch, December 18. At 2 o’clock this morning a six-roomed house at Spreydon was burnt down. It was insured for £250, and the furniture for £5O in the London and Lancashire. Just afterwards a two-storey building in Tuam street was burnt. It was insured for £7OO in the South British. December 19. By direction of the Government the Waste Lands Board has reserved from sale all land in Canterbury north of the Rakaia river, in view of the probable construction of the West Coast railway. Duneiin, December 18. Sir James Prendergast and Lady Prendergast arrived by the Waihora on Tuesday from England ; also the Hon. Mr. Holmes. No word has yet been heard of Fitzgerald, who is wanted for the Newthorne murder. A reward of £5O is offered for his apprehension. Tho Premier arrived by train last night. He has been attending the Snjjreiw*--eonft" siltings at TinigrM. —" 'December 19. At the Police Court yesterday White and Crowley was committed for trial on the charge of the murder of Meldrum at Newthorne, Hokitika, December 19. A fatal aoeident, occurred yesterday to a Maori named Rahaihn, who was on a shooting expedition with two others, and camped at the Blue Spur. He took the barrels out, of the gun, and placed the nipples end on to the fire and blew into the top of one nf the barrels, the charge in which exploded, killing him instantly.
