Melbourne Wool Sales.
[Reuter’h Telegrams.] Melbourne, Decpmbsr 18. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. held their usual weekly wool sale to-day, The catalogue comprised 5,100 bales. There was the usual large attendance of buyers and an animated competition was experienced. Over 4 000 bales were disposed of under the hammer, which, with 560 bales of former lots sold on Tuesday, made a total for the week of 4,600 bales. Since the beginning of the season the Company have sold 300,000 bales, being an increase of 15 per cent, compared with the same period last year. The market is active at late rates. There is brisk competition for all fine and good condition wools, but inferior cross-breds and faulty merinos are depressed. Scoured wools are in good demand. Washed fleece is du'l. Greasy merino so’d up to I2d ; greasy cross bred to i2d ; and scoured wools to 20jd.
