(Per Press Association.) Invercargill, December 10. The Supreme Court sittings opened yesterday. W. Miller, convicted of attempted suicide, was discharged on entering into his own recognisance to appear when called upon. I . J. Hoare, tor forgery, got two years. - Christchurch, December 10. A man named Thomas Plunkett, while taking a load of coal from Coalgate to Horarata, fell off his dray, and the wheel passed over his body, inflicting injuries from which he died in a few hours. Timaru, December 10. The Supreme Court sittings opened yesteiday. James Mitchell, burglary, five years’ penal servitude; Thomas Park, who pleaded guilty of rape, ten years’ penal servitude. Dunklin, December 10. A somewhat singular accident happened to Edward Dewar, proprietor of a traction engine and threshing mill, who was campingo ut for the night, and had disconnected the travelling gear, when the engine, being on an incline, started off with the mid behind it, and soon had attained a great speed. Dewar stuck to the engine until it capsized, and, with the mill, was completely wrecked. Dewar was severely crushed. One rib was severed from his backbone, and three others were crushed.
