Napier Supreme Court.
[Own Correspondent.] Napier, December 6. In the Supreme Court yesterday James Corrigan, charged with the larceny of a quantity of beef, the property of William Scott Green, near Wairoa. was acquitted. This concluded the criminal business. The civil cases were then taken, all before His Honor without a jury. Wardrop v. Crane, claim £3,213; Firth v. Shugar, claim £200; and Harker v. Sanzean, claim £299, were postponed till next sittings. Wardrop v. Hindmarsh, Bee, and Cooper, claim £2,000 were referred to the Court sitting in Banco, to be heard at Wellington if necessary. Brewers estate v. Banner and Liddl®, two actions. Nonsuits were entered with costs. Hamlin v. Maney was a claim for £lOO for work done. The defence was that the claim was barred by the Statute of Limitations. A
denial of alleged agreements and a set-off for £lOO for monies advanced was put in. Judgment for defendant, with leave to plaintiff to move to set aside the judgment on the ground that defendant had deprived himself by certain letters written to plaintiff of the right to plead the Statute of Limitations. Storer v. Tuxford was a claim of £lB7 for goods ordered from England by defendant, but which were not delivered because payment was required before handing him the bills of lading. Judgment for amount with costs on the lower scale. Wood and Co. v. Sheppard was a claim for £250, balance of account on sales of sheep-dip, defendant being plaintiff’s agent. Judgment was given for plaintiff for £49.
