Wellington News.
[Own Correspondent.] Wellington, November 20. Government have held Cabinet meetings almost daily since the session closed. Amongst other important subjects the Greymouth and Westport Harbors Acts have received prolonged attention. Appointments to the Boards will be gazetted in a few days. The Appeal Court was occupied yesterday in hearing arguments in the case of the Otago Land Board and William Higgins, the question being whether the Land Acts of 1883 and 1884 are reprospective, a decision has not yet been given. Government have communicated with the various District Railway Go’s, with a view of ascertaining whether they wished to enter into negotiations for the lease and sale of their lines. The information asked for comprises specifications, plans, and particulars as to capital. Messrs Geo. Fisher (present Mayor), J. Pretheric, jun., and Geo. Allan, were nominated yesterday for the Mayoralty.
