HINTS TO WOOL GROWERS.

Unless you can wash your wool well, it is better to shear in the grease. Every fleece should be carefully skirted, and then turned inside out and rolled up. It is better not to tie fleeces, as buyers can examine much easier and better when the fleeces are simply rolled. When tied with twine, buyers are apt to pull wool about more, and it materially depreciates its value. Always keep pieces and locks separate, and avoid placing two sorts in one bale, as it is far preferable to make two half bales than one mixed bale. Never place merino and crossbred wools together, as there are always distinct buyers for each class, and when mixed together some of the best competitois are shut out from bidding. Always mark the class or description on each bale, as it is of great service to the brokers in cataloguing and placing wools properly. When advising a consignment, please state the number of bales of fleece, lambs, pieces, locks, &c., and whether greasy or washed. Considerable confusion is caused in the heat of the season by branding small clips with one letter only, as occasionally several lots will arrive in one day branded with the same letter. We would therefore strongly recommend our friends to use two or more letters, or the name of the station or farm, and keep to the same brand every year. Always use new woolpacks, as foreign buyers are now large purchasers of the smaller clips, but they will not look at. any wool that is in second-hand packs, or parcels that are unskirted.
