[Own Correspondent.) Wellington, November 1. Legislative Council. Afotfow. In the Council yesterday On the motion of the Colonial Secretary it was resolved that the Standing Orders be suspended for the remainder of the session to enable Government bills to take precedence and be passed through all stages in one day. Index to Statutes, On the motion of Dr. Pollen it was agreed that the index to the statues from 1840 to 1879 be revised and reprinted, showing all additional statues to the end of this session. On the motion of Mr. Reynolds, the Municipal Corporations Bill was ordered for its second reading on the following day. On the motion of the Colonial Secretary the Drainage of Mines Bill was ordered to be considered in committee on the following day. Bills Passed. The Government Insurance Association Bill, the Supreme Court Procedure Act Amendment Bill, the Bankruptcy Bill, the Police Offences Bill, and the False Notice of Birth, Death, or Marriage Bill, were read a third time and passed. Second Readings, The Hokitika Steam Tug Bill, the Wanganui Harbor Bill, the Electric Light Bill, and the Land Bill, were read a second time, the latter being referred to the Waste Lands Committee.
