Accidents, Offences, &c.

(Per Press Association.) Nelson, October 30. An enquiry was evening respecting a gun accident that occurred at the rifle butts. Dr. Leggatt was superintending the firing of the company when through the accidental discharge of a carbine, Dr. Leggatt was shot through the palm of the left hand. The injuries received were of such a nature that amputation at the wrist was found necessary. Last accounts from the hospital state that the doctor is doing well, though greatly depressed. Dr. Leggatt had previously cautioned the man not to load till his turn came to fire, but he disobeyed the order. Gunners Ladd and Clarke had a narrow escape, the bullet passing between the arm and side, of Gunner Clarke and grazing the coat of Gunner Ladd.
