Wellington News.
[Own Correspondent,] Wellington, October 29. The caucus of Government supporters yesterday was largely attended, and was of a very animated character. After the Premier had stated the intentions of Government regarding the resolution for the purchasing of District Railways, it was proposed that the question be deferred till next session, Government in the meantime to make enquires so as to be able to make a proposal for the purchase of the railways next year. This was negatived, and it was decided by 22 against 16 tbat Sir Julius Vogel’s resolution be submitted in an amended form, by striking out the part having reference to paying the actual cost of the railway; thus leaving it to Government to make the best terms they could. It is generally thought that considering how many Government supporters are opposed to it, the resolution will be withdrawn.
