MR. E. ff. WARD.
In the Legilative Council on the 10th October the Hon. Mr. Wilson moved, “ That the papers laid on the table in the matter of E. ff. Ward be printed.” The Hon Mr. Buckley would like to know what public purpose could be served by the printing of these papers. The Hon. Mr. McLean thought no good purpose could be served by the printing of these papers. They had already heard too much about these local squabbles, and the Council .should put a stop to the practice of persons coming to that Council to fight out their quarrels in this way. He did not know or care anything about the rights or wrongs of the dispute, but he should ret his face against practices of this sort. Ho hoped the Council would not agree to the motion. The Hon. Capt. Fraser said for some time past they had hoard a groat deal of this trivial affair which had taken place at Gisborne, and it was absurd to expect the Council to go to expense in publishing what he could characterize as nothing else but trash ; nor was theie any reason for printing it, the matter having been adjudicated upon and concluded.
The Hon. Mr. Wilson had no intoreet in this matter, his only object being this: that not only himself but various other members had been pestered by applications for these papers, which had been laid on the table, and he saw no reason why they should not be printed. If they were not printed a garbled account would be sure to get into the papers. Motion negatived.
