[reuter’s telegrams.] Madrid, October 6. The cholera epidemic has now entirely ceased in this country. Rome, O tober 6. The number of fresh cases of cholera in Naples and other towns has materially lessened during the last few days. Hopes are entertained that the spread of the epidemic has been permanently checked. London, October 6. The Homeward mails via Suez and Brin, disi, dated Melbourne, August 26, were delivered to-day. Arrived at Plymouth—P. and O. steamship Peshawur from Melbourne (August 6 ) Earl Nor hbrook proposes the abolition of ihe present standing army in Egypt, and in its place there should be maintained a force of 9,000 police. The Egyptian Government, it is understood, are opposed to Lord Northbrook’s scheme. October 7. Tenders for the New South Wales loan of five and a-half millions, at 31 per cent, and a minimum of 92, were opened to-day. The total amount offered was found to be £13,700,000. Tenders at £93 12s. 6d. will receive 55 per cent, of the allotment, and those above that price in full.
