The Native Land Bill.
[Own correspondent.] Wellington, October 3. In the House of Representatives yesterday the debate on the motion for the second reading of a Bill to Amend the Acts relating to Native Lands was resumed. The Native Minister strongly objected to the bill, and expressed a desire that the House would reject it. Wi Pere contended that if the bill became law, all native lands would soon pass away from the Maoris. The debate was further adjourned until next Wednesday. Wairoa, October 3. A fairly attended representative public meeting was held here last night to discuss Mr. Locke’s bill. A resolution was passed unanimously in its favor, and affirming the desirability of the measure becoming law.
