Gisborne Harbor Bill.
[Own correspondent.] Wellington, September 26. In the House yesterday Sir George Grey moved the second reading of the Gisborne Harbor Board Empowering Bill, remarking that those endeavoring to obtain the construction of harbors for places like Napier and Gisborne were really bene-
factors to the country. Mr. Rolleston objected to the endowment
Sir Julius Vogel pointed out that no member in the House had done more in getting endowments than Mr. Rolleston. The Premier said the endowment asked for had cost Government £ll,OOO, and if roads were also opened up the sum would probably be twice that amount. He suggested the House should allow the second reading, and the bill be referred to the Waste Lands Committee.
After some further discussion, in which Colonel Trimble and Mr. Bryce took part, the bill was read a second time, and referred to the Waste Lands Committee.
