MORE TROOPS NOT REQUIRED. THE MAHDI MAKING FRESH I’REPAHATIONS. [Reuter’s Telegrams.] Cairo, September 22. Lord Wolsely has advised that the two regiments now under orders to proceed from Malta to Egypt should be stopped, as their services are not likely to be required there. The French Consul at Khartoum telegrfjphs that the vicinity of that town has been freed of rebels, and that he is about to leave for Dongola with M. Power and Colonel Stewart. Latest intelligence from the Soudan states that the Mahdi is about to resume the offensive, and since the siege of Khartoum was raised, he has been engaged in gathering together an army of rebel troop which, in consequence of General Gordon’s continued success, is about to be despatched against Khartoum.
