[Per United Press Association.] Auckland, September 24, Captain Edie, of the Waihora, has been presented with an illuminated address by the passengers quarantined with the vessel on her last trip from Melbourne. An indignation meeting was held at Cambridge on Monday night to protest against the delay in opening the railway. The Thames Borough Council have ascertained that the status of the whole Council is open to question, owing to a Returning Officer not having been appointed for the different wards severally. At the baby show yesterday there were 120 entries, and a crowded attendance of the public. Wellington, September 24. Messrs. Mills & Cable, of the Lion Foundry, have just successfully completed the casting of a bell for the Masterton Fire Brigade, weighing 3}cwt. The bell, which has been cast without a flaw or air holes, is in G, an octave above the big bell which strikes the hour in the tower of the Post Office. The proprietors of the Lion Foundry have already cast five bells in a true octave, and they contemplate making chiming bells a specialty in their foundry.
