Meetings of Creditors.
EXTRAORDINARY PROCEEDINGS. [Per Association Telegrams.) Dunedin, September 19. At a meeting of the creditors of Evans, contractor, some extraordinary facts came out. Evans was contractor for the Levitham Hotel, erected by George Bodely. A fictitious contract was signed by Evans for £4,550 10j, the actual amount being L 3.800, and the fictitious sum was inserted in order that Bodely could borrow a larger amount than otherwise he could have done. Bodely has also filed his schedule. The assignee said it was an unquestionable case of fraud.
A meeting of the creditors of George Bodely, proprietor of the Leviatham Hotel, was held to-day. The liabilities are £930, and assets £2O. Referring to Evans’ meeting yesterday, the bankrupt said as he had applied he was a party to the deception practised on the Equitable Co., but he considered it was an excusable one, and the company went into the matter, and made the valuation with their eyes open. If anyone would pass censure on him, he would like to see that man. The assignee said he would have no hesitation in passing censure on the bankrupt for having deceived the company. The meeting then adjourned.
