PROSECUTION FOR NEGLECT TO REPORT OF CONTAGIOUS DISEASE. EXTRAORDINARY OUTRAGE IN BROAD DAYLIGHT. [reuter’s telegrams.] Sydney, September 11. The Government have commenced the prosecution of Dr. Tichler for omitting to give information respecting the cases of small-pox which occurred at the Orient Hotel, George Street, and which he attended. [Per Press Association.] Wellington, September 12. During a quarrel at Paikakariki, on Tuesday, a man had the end of his nose bitten off hy another. The offender was arrested last night. A verdict of accidental death was returned at the inquest on Joshua Beard, killed while blasting. Auckland, September 11. Mrs. Mary Smith, wife of a seaman, who arrived by the Waihora from Dunedin, was assaulted in broad daylight in the Western park by four lads, who threw her down, covered her mouth, and robbed her of her purse and money. Three of the culprits have been arrested. Lionel Phillips, wine and spirit merchant, who went £1,200 to the bad in nine months and is unable to account for it, has been refused the recommendation of his discharge by his creditors.
