Opium smoking is on the increase to such an extent in New York, that the authorities confess their inability to prevent it by law. A despatch dated 26th July says that the excitement regarding this investigation had spread from Dublin to London, and bade fair to become as intense there as it was in the Irish capital. The arrest of Dr. Ferneday, of the Coldstream Guards, on a charge of being an accomplice of the Cornwall crime, has caused a great sensation.
