Wellington News.
[from our own correspondent.] August 27. Some very funny petitions are being presented to the House, the latest of which is stated to be from Paora Parau, of Gisborne, asking that he be appointed a member of the Council in place of Wi Tako, at present holding that position, on the grounds of his being incapable for it. This is said to be at the instigation of a well-known Maori member of the House of Representatives. A caucus meeting of Stout-Vogelites was held this morning, but nothing particular transpired. Another open caucus is being held this afternoon of those who voted against the late Ministry. Negotiations between Atkinson and Vogel are now off, and all probabilities of a coalition between these two is out of the question. [Per United Press Association.] August 27. At a meeting of the Vogel party this morning it was stated that negotiations between Major Atkinson and Sir Julius Vogel had fallen through. The meeting decided to adjourn until the Ministry to be formed by Major Atkinson is announced. The Atkinson party meet at 2.30 this afternoon.
