(Per Press Association.) WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20. Legislative Council. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. Motions. On the motion of Sir George Whitmore, a number of Committees were set up, including Local Bills Committee, Reporting and Printing Debates Committee, Returns and Papers Committee, Goldfields, Waste Lands, Native Affairs, and Standing Orders Committees. Colonel Brett moved the appointment of a Public Petitions Committee, which was

agreed to. Captain Baillie was, on the motion of Sir G. Whitmore, seconded by Colonel Brett, appointed Chairman of Committees for the season. The Council adjourned at 2.50.
