TE ARO RECLAMATION. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, August 20. At a meeting of the City Council it was resolved “ That the Mayor convene a meeting of burgesses of the city, and take a poll as to the possibility or otherwise of raising a special loan of £7,500, for the construction of the Te Aro Reclamation. The lonic sails for Lyttelton to-morrow. Dunedin, August 20. The Tongariro arrived to-day, 44 days out from Plymouth, including stoppages at Teneriffe, Cape of Good Hope, and Hobart. Christchurch, August 20. Thomas Bracken, Esq., while en route for Wellington, accepted an offer to make a tour of the West coast for the purpose of writing a series of articles descriptive of the scenery in that part of the Colony. He has started overland for Hokitika, and will visit the principal places of interest on the Coast before settling down in Wellington. Invercargill, August 20. The firm of Aitken, Cross, & Co., wholesale merchants, have filed a petition to be adjudicated bankrupts. Auckland, August 20. Mr. J. C. Williamson, of Opera Company celebrity, is a passenger by the Zealandia for San Francisco, which left here last evening.
