AUSTRALIANS V. GLOUCESTER. ]Rxutbb's Tblegwk] . Losnos, August 18. The Australian Cricketers commenced a match at Cheltenham to-day against Eleven of the County of Gloucester. The following are the names of the home team :—Messrs. J. Bush, E. M. Grace, W. G. Grace, W. W. F. Pullen, E. J. Taylor, F 1 Townsend, H. A. Page, J. H. Brain, F. H. Curtis, Wooff and Painter. There was a good attendance of spectators and the weather was splendid. The ground was in excellent order, and a first rate wicket was pitched. The home team went in first, and were all put out for 188 ; the principal scorers being— E. M. Grace, b. .. ..66 Painter, c 34
The Australians then went in for their Ist innings, and scored 176 for the loss of two wickets before the stumps were drawn. Murdoch and Scott had then each scored 65 runs, and were playing brilliantly. AMALGAMATION OF WELLINGTON AND ISLAND BAY CLUBS. [Feb United Pbess Association.] Wellington, August 20. It is more than probable that the two racing clubs will amalgamate. Delegates representing each club will meet to-morrow to discuss the questions.
