[Per Press Association] . Wellington, August 18. The little steamer Moa, from Wellington to Foxton, met with an accident when off the Foxton bar. She was disabled by the bursting of the cylinder cover of her port engine, and was towed into Foxton by the steamer Jane Douglas. At the Supreme Court, in Matrimonial Causes, Monckton r. Monckton and O’Kearne v. Gray will be taken, both Wellington cases. Auckland, August 18. A son of John Keatley, storekeeper at Kawakawa, has been drowned in a hole fourteen inches deep, dug for a fencing-post. A man (name unknown) has committed suicide at Mongonui Bluff Hotel, between Dargaville and Hokianga. Hugh Black Scott, an engraver, charged with wife desertion at Oamaru, has been remanded by the Auckland bench to Timaru, bail being allowed. Wanganui, August 18. An elderly man named Paice, belonging to Fielding, was found dead near the Wanganui racecourse on Sunday morning. His body was discovered in a small creek. The body was one mass of burns from head to footHe is supposed to have slept in a hedge near by, which was much burnt, and to have crawled to the creek for relief when burnt. Christchurch, August 18. R. Duncan, blacksmith, of Papanui, when cutting a branch off a tree, fell about 20 feet. His spine was injured. Port Chalmers, August 18. An act of sacrilege was committed last night in the Wesleyan Church. The vestry was forcibly entered, the lids of eleven contribution boxes were wrenched off and the contents stolen. The thieves had laid stones and wood outside the vestry window by which they entered, to prevent traces of footmarks being seen. Waipawa, August 18. A burglarious attempt to break into the Bank of New Zealand at Waip’ukurau was made at two o’clock on Sunday morning. The theives broke through the windows and door, but were then alarmed by the waking of the agent, and escaped. No trace has been discovered. Dunedin, August 18. On Sunday a house at St. Kilda, occupied by Daniel Hart, was destroyed by fire. It was insured for £2OO in the South British. The grocery store of Robert Ritchie, Kaikoura was burnt yesterday. The building was insured in the National for £lOO, and stock in the United for £250.
