FEMALE PETITION ON LICENSING LAW. BABY SHOW. [Per Press Association.] Auckland, August 16. The women’s petition to Parliament for female suffrage on the Licensing Law has been signed by 1,700 people. Wellington, August 16. The Mawhera arrived from Greymouth this morning. When crossing the bar soundings were taken, and the lowest depth of water was 19 feet. Mr. A. R. Guineas, M.H.R., was a passenger by the steamer. Dunedin, August 16. In the case of the Bank of Australasia r. Walter Guthrie, claim £4,100 on a guarantee, the jury, after five hours’ retirement, returned a unanimous verdict for defendant. The Baby Show produced 135 entries. Owing to the enormous crush of sight-seers, the judging had to be postponed until Monday. Christchurch, August 16. The lumpers’ strike at Lyttelton has been settled.
