THE MILTON EXPLOSION. FOUR PERSONS BURNT TO DEATH AND TWO SERIOUSLY INJURED. [Reuter’s Telegrams] . London, August 12. A fire occurred to-day at a hatter’s shop in Pimlico, and caused the death of four persons who were unable to escape from the burning building. Two others leaped from the windows and were seriously injured. [Per United Press Association.] Wellington, August 13. The proprietor of the Bank Hotel was yesterday convicted and fined for supplying a bottle of rum to one Thomas King, while under the influence of liquor. King, it will ba remembered, wasjound dead in his house with an empty bottle beside him. Dunedin, August 13.
All but the three principal sufferers by the late explosion of chemicals at Milton are out of the doctors’ hands. No further hope is entertained of Mr. James Reid ultimately gaining the use of his eye. In the other two cases (Mr. Strachan’s son and Mr. Jones’ daughter) there is improvement, and the perception of light in each case, and it is believed they will be fully restored to sight. Christchurch, August 13. The body of Richard King was found in Lyttelton harbor yesterday. King was addicted to drink, and had been missing about a month.
