[Per Press Association.] WARING TAYLOR’S BANKRUPTCY. Wellington, August 9. In his report on Waring Taylor’s estate, the Official Assignee submits that Taylor has brought himself under the penal clauses of the Bankruptcy Act. MR. DICK DECLINES A SEAT. Dunedin, August 9. The presentation of a largely signed address was made to Mr. Thos. Dick this morning, requesting him to reconsider his determination not to accept a seat in the Legislative Council if one was offered. Mr. Donald Reid (as spokesman) pointed out that the retiring Ministry, though unpopular now in consequence of depression, left the affairs of the country in a much better position than when they took office, Mr. Dick, in reply, declined, on the ground that the Council was not a proper sphere for defeated candidates, and announced his intention on the first vacancy of seeking to obtain a seat in the House.
SCHOONER IN DISTRESS. New Plymouth, August 9. The schooner Cora arrived this morning. She spoke the schooner Energy, sixteen days from Auckland, bound to Greymouth. The crew had been without water for eight days. The Cora supplied the crew with a hundred gallons.
