Opening of Parliament.

[Per Press Association.] Wellington, August 7. Parliament will be opened by Commission this afternoon. The members of the Lower House, on assembling in their own Chamber, will be summoned to attend the Commissioners in the Legislative Council Chamber; the Commission will then be read, and Parliament be declared formally opened. Members of the Lower House will then be instructed to return to their own Chamber, elect a Speaker, and present him for approval to the Governor, who will, on a future day, inform Parliament of the reasons which have induced him to call it together. On returning to the House the new Members will be sworn in by the Clerk of Parliaments, who will receive returns from the Clerk of Writs. On the swearing in being completed, the House will proceed to the election of a Speaker. His Excellency will probably attend, and deliver the usual speech on Friday afternoon. Immediately after the opening of Parliament this afternoon, members will be sworn in and a Speaker elected, after which the House will adjourn until to-morrow, when the Premier will make a statement as to the intention of the Government.

Latest—The Commissioners opened Parliament at 2 o’clock, and stated that His Excellency the Governor would on Thursday, 14th inst., attend and explain his reason for calling Parliament together. The swearing-in is now taking place in the House of Representatives.

A telegram just received says:—ln the House, Mr. Fulton proposed, and Mr. Maoandrew seconded, the nomination of Sir Maurice O’Rorke as Speaker. He was elected unanimously. Major Atkinson congratulated Sir Maurice O’Rorke on his appointment.
