[Per Association Telegrams.] THE YELLOW FLAG. Auckland, August 6. A schooner from Manilla, with the yellow flag flying, has been signalled. A later message says: — The schooner Norah, from the Mauritius, which hoisted the yellow flag, had no disease on board. She only hoisted the flag being from an infected port.
AUCKLAND TIMBER COMPANY. The Auckland Timber Company pays over £l,OOO per week for wages.
VOLUNTEERING. At a meeting of volunteers yesterday, a resolution favoring the abolition of the New Zealand Rifle Association was carried, and it was decided to request the Defence Minister to vote monies to encourage local associations. DIVORCE. The divorce case, Towle v. Towle and others, will be tried on August 18th. E. A. Green’s shop caught fire last evening, and the stock was much damaged. Insured in the Colonial office for £3OO and in the Victorian for £3OO. The building was insured, but it was not known in what office. It was not much damaged. GOLDFIELDS NEWS. Wellington, August 6.
During the last few days there has been a slight revival of interest in the Tcrawhiti Goldfields, and enquiries have been made for Golden Crown shares, some parcels of which have changed hands ; but holders generally are not inclined to sell. ILLNESS OF THE MAYOR. His Worship the Mayor is seriously indisposed, suffering from brain fever. WARD U. NATIONAL BANK. Dunedin, August 6. In the case of Ward v. National Bank, the Judge (in Chambers) refused plaintiff’s application for leave to appeal to the Privy Council. ACCLIMATISATION. The Otago Acclimatisation Society have passed a resolution regretting the steps which the Government have taken in connection with the introduction of stoats and weasles.
