Small-Pox at our Doors.
His Worship the Mayor has just (11.45) received the following telegram from Dr. W. S. Spencer, Mayor of Napier, and also Health Officer :— Case of small-pox was landed here from Waihora on Saturday. Watch passengers who landed. FURTHER PARTICULARS. (Per Press Association.) Napier, August 4. A case of confluent small-pox was landed from the steamer Waihora on Saturday, and sent to the hospital. The nature of the disease was suspected yesterday and confirmed to-day. The man is not expected to live, He had not been vaccinated. The Mayor has wired to the Colonial Secretary for instructions, and also to the Mayors of Auckland and Gisborne, to warn them of the Waihora. Arrangements have been made to quarantine the hospital and to remove the case to the quaranine station.
