National Bank, in which a special jury found for plaintiff, the question of costs in the first trial was reserved. Mr. Stout mentioned that he would apply to take the case direct to the Privy Council. At the inquest on the body of Wakeline, found in a creek, a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane was returned. He leaves a wife and ten children. COMMITTAL FOR FRAUD. Wellington, July 31. Charles Henry Gundry, who described himself as a sugar planter from Fiji, was to-day committed for trial on a charge of fraudulently inducing Sir W. A. Fitzherbert to indorse a promissory note for £3O. Accused, when making application for the money, produced deeds of certain lands in the South Seas, which documents are now believed not to be genuine. FASHIONABLE WEDDING. The wedding of Mr. J. S. M. Thompson, (of Messrs. Thompson, Shannon & Co.), with Miss Krull, eldest daughter of F. A. Krull, German Consul, was celebrated to-day, and created a great stir in fashionable circles. THE BRYCE -RUSDEN LIBEL. No definite information has been . received by Mr. Rryce as to the date when the' slander case against Mr. Rusden will be heard. Mr. Bryce is certain he will have to go to England, but as the new law of procedure is now being brought into operation at Home, a lengthy delay in hearing this case will certainly ensue. Private advices from London state that Captain Benson, well-known in connection with the old Panama Steam Service, died on May 22, after a short illness. AUCKLAND GAS COMPANY. Auckland, July 31. At the half-yearly meeting of the Auckland Gas Company a dividend of Bs. Gd, per share was declared. The Harbor Board have granted Mr. Fraser the use of the docks for repairing the Triumph at half-rates for six weeks: after then, full rates. A life buoy, belonging to the brigantine Parnell, has come ashore on the West Coast. No feats are entertained for the vessel as she was well found, and she is believed to be off Manukau standing off and on owing to bad weather. FATAL ACCIDENT. John Boyce, employed by Mr. Hellaby, a butcher, was killed yesterday through being jammed by a trolley. Nelson, July 31. Thomas Elsmore, of Grovetown, Blenheim, a blind organ-grinder, was charged yesterday with abusing his own daughter, a little girl only ten years old. He was committed for trial. SOUTHERN CROSS OIL COMPANY. Christchurch, July 31. The Directors of the Southern Cross Petroleum company report that the boring tools supposed to have been recovered have since been lost. No. 2 bore has been abandoned, the derrick shifted a few feet, and a new bore begun alongside the former. As tilt? ground is known to be good the new bore is expected to be put down with expedition and without trouble.
