The Small-Pox Scare.

[Per Association Telegrams.] ACTION OF GOVERNMENT. Wellington, July 29. The Government are communicating by telegraph with the authorities in Australia, and the health officers in this colony with reference to the small-pox question. The Government are awaiting replies before taking action, as they do not wish to enforce a general quarantine unless it is absolutely necessary, as it would very seriously disturb the large trade which this colony has with Australia. Should it be decided not to enforce a general quarantine, every precaution will be taken by the health officers to prevent the disease being carried into the colony by their making a minute examination of every vessel for traces of the disease, and should any be found, the vessel and passengers would be quarantined for the full period.
