A Remarkable Scene.
[Per Association Telegrams.] Auckland, July 28.
Mr. Hansen, a married man, who eloped to Nelson with a Mrs. Compton, and who was arrested on a charge of wife desertion, arrived at the Manukau in the Wanaka yesterday. Mrs. Compton accompaniad him. Mrs. Hansen was waiting on the wharf for her husband, and as soon as the women saw each other a free fight took place, and the belligerent females were separated with difficulty. In the railway carriage another skirmish took place, Mrs. Hanson at last got in such a state of excitement, that she made a dash at an open door ns the train was entering the tunnel and attempted to throw herself between the carriages exclaiming, ‘ f Anywhere, anywhere, out of this world.” Sergeant Green, however, succeeded in clutching her dress before she could effect her purpose. On arrival at the police station Mrs. Hansen wished to remain at the door of her husband’s cell, and threatened to commit suicide if she was sent away. She was locked up.
