The Elections.
[Per United Press Association.] ' Ashburton, July 18. John Grigg, one of the candidates for the Wakanui seat, addressed a crowded meeting last evening. He announced himself a supporter of Sir Julius Vogel, and a representative of the farmer interest. He expressed himself opposed to candidates receiving a vote of confidence, and asked them not to do more than accord him thanks. His reception throughout was most enthusiastic. Patea, July 18. Mr. Fantham addressed a meeting of the electors of Egmont on Wednesday night, and received a unanimous vote of confidence.
Auckland, July 18. Atkin has retired from the candidature for Eden, and attacked O’Neil, the other Ministerial candidate. Although professing to be running on the same side in politics, he had refused to enter into any negotiations for withdrawing. Tole’s election is considered certain.
