CRICKET.—AUSTRALIANS V. /LL ENGLAND, [Reuter’s Telegraks.] London, July 10. Telegrams from Manchester, timed 3 p.m. to-day, announce that up to that hour owing to the heavy rain play had not begun in the cricket match, Australians v. All England. A change has been made in those constituting the English team, A. ’P. Lucas, Barlow, and Shrewsbury, taking the places of Lord Harris, Crossland, and Bright. The other eight players chose a remain in the team, viz., W. J. Grace, Hornby, Steel, O'Brien, Barnes, Peate, Pilling, and Ulyctt. Later—Owing to the continued inclemency of the weather, the Manchester cricket match has been postponed until to-morrow. The cricket match, Australia v. All England, commenced at Manchester late this afternoon, the weather having moderated, though continuing showery. The wicket was very heavy owing to the rain that had fallen. The Englishmen went first to the wickets, and when the stumps were drawn, their score stood at 26, with 3 wickets down. The individual scores were Grace, c 8; Hornby, stumped, 0 ; Ulyett, b 5 ; Barlow, not out, 5 ; Steel, not out, 8. MELBOURNE CUP SCRATCHINGS. Melbourne, July 11. Dirk Hattrick and Sardius have been scratched for the Melbourne Cup. [Per Pres i Association.] S.C.J. MEETING. Timaru, July 12. The S.C.J. Clubs’ Steeplechase Meeting was held to-day. There was a fair attendance but threatening weather. Hurdles, 10 sovs. Mustard.. .. 1 Armidale .. .. .. 2 Milo .. .. .. .. 3 Away, Trapper. Luggare, and Encore, also ran. South Canterbury Steeplechase, 100 sovs. The Lad 1 Barbary 2 The Agent 3 Magic also ran, and Mustard was scratched. It was a grand race, and was won by The Lad by a length. Hunt Club Cup. Armitage’s Rona 1 Roberts’ Woodstock ~ .. 2 Handicap Steeplechase. The Lad .. .. .. .. 1 Mustard .. .. .. .. 2 Moody 3 Four others ran. Won by a neck. Hurdle Selling Race. Milo .. .. 1 Bordeaux ~ ~ ~ ~ 2 Little Dick ~ ~ ~ 3 Koscuisco also started. Consolation. Moody 1 Barbary .. ~ .. ~ 2 Agent '.. 3 Four others also ran. Moody won the race by a bare length after a close race. Dunedin, July 12. The annual report of the Dunedin Jockey Club states that they began the year with a debit balance of £2,143, and after paying stakes and all expenses, closed with a debit balance of £321. The property was stated last year at £33,000, and notwithstanding the amount expended on it (which on permanent buildings alone amount to £500) they had written off £30,000 to meet the altered time. Wellington, July 12. Clarence has been scratched for the Jockey Club Steeplechase. It is doubtful if the races can be held to-day, owing to the wet weather. The stewards hold a meeting this morning to decide. Later. It has been decided to proceed with the races. Jury has been scratched for the Maiden Steeplechase, and King Arthur for the Maiden and W.J. Club’s Steeplechase.
