Defeat of the Liberal Government.
[Reuter’s Telegrams.] London, July 10. Mr. Gladstone has summoned a meeting of members of the Liberal Party for to-day, to consider the position of tho Government in reference to their defeat in the House of Lords on the Franchise Bill, and decide upon a course of action in connection with the same. Later.—Mr. Gladstone will, in the House of Commons to-day, make a statement as to the intentions of the Government in view of the rejection of the Franchise Bill by the House of Lords. The belief is generally current, and hourly being strengthened, that the Government have decided to introduce the measure afresh at a special session to be held in the autumn. Latest.—lt has transpired that at a meeting of the members of the Liberal party to-day Mr. Gladstone stated that the present session would end shortly, and Parliament would reassemble in October for the purpose of again passing the Franchise Bill through the House of Lords.
