The Native Elections.
[Per Press Association.] Nominations for the Northern Maori Electoral District took place yesterday, four candidates being nominated, viv., — Ihaka Hakueno te Tai, Raniera Wharerau, Hirini Taiwhanga, andKaparangi. At the nomination of the Southern Maori candidates at Kaiapoi, Hori Keri Taiaroa and Tare Wetere Tekau were proposed and a poll demanded. Nominations of the Native Western Electorate took place yesterday, when the following eight were nominated :—Henarc Kaihau. Hamiora Mangakahia, Mita Karaka, Ngatipare, Meiha Keepa Taitoko, Te Puke, Wetere Te Kerenga, Meiha Te Wheoro, and Sydney Taiwhanga. A show of hands was in favor of Henarc Kaihau, and a poll was demanded by Sydney Taiwhanga and the proposer of Hamiora Mangakahia. Major Te Wheoro and Major Kemp, of Wanganui, are two of the candidates. The proceedings passed off very quietly, few remarks being made. Only three of the candidates were present.
