Shocking Suicide,
[Per Press Association,] Auckland, July 8. A shocking case of suicide was discovered here to-day. About a week ago a man, aged about 60, named John Beit, leased a building in High Street, stating that he required it for storing samples. This morning the owner called for the rent, but finding the inner door locked, his suspicion was aroused, and he informed a police constable, who broke in the door, and found Beit’s corpse lying on the floor of an inner room, fully dressed. A fivechambered revolver was in his right hand and there was a bullet wound in his right temple, and the fact that only four of the chambers were loaded, showed that the unfortunate man had shot himself. Deceased was a German, and came North four years ago from Westland. He was at the Thames until recently, having been engaged as clerk to Ehrenfried, Bros., brewers. It is not known if he has any relations in the colony. Later.—-It appears that B.eit, while on the West Coast, attempted suicide. The cause of the act is believed to be poverty,
