[Per United Press Association.] EMBEZZLEMENT. Dunedin, July 5. Frank Carr, clerk, was to-day brought up on three charges of embezzling moneys belonging to his employer, John Anderson, cabinetmaker. The cases were dealt with summarily, accused receiving in one case one month, and in another two. In consequence of the Herald's attack on Mr. Stout, Mr. Bracken has resigned the managership of that paper. INFANTICIDE. Christchurch, July 5. A servant girl named Bonnington has been arrested, charged with infanticide, her newly born infant having been found dead in the watercloset. The girl has been removed to the hospital. An inquest will be held. , , . Wellington, July 5. At the inquest on Richard Brooker, who was killed while bush falling at Porirua, a verdict of accidental death was returned. His Excellency the Governor and Major Cautley leaves for Sydney by the steamer Wakatipu to-morrow night. The resignation of W. W. Taylor as a Justice of the Peace, has been gazetted. The steamer Go-Ahead, on going up the Wanganui liver this morning, had her propeller and shaft broken. She will bo probably be towed down to Wellington for repairs. HELP IN THE QUEEN’S NAME. Alfred Kemp, chief officer of the English barque Hudson, was to-day committed for trial for refusing to assist a police constable, who was being maltreated bv three of the crew of his vessel. A SHIP ON FIRE. Auckland, July 5. The steamer Lallali Rookh, took fire at Raglan at midnight yesterday, but after strenuous exertions the fire was subdued. The hull and cargo were damaged. She left for Onehunga this morning. A ship is reported in Hauraki Gulf, it is believed to be the Orari, from London.
