The Southern Cross from the same port will arrive tomorrow, and the Ringarooma on Sunday from the South,

A Correction.—Mr, Joyce writes as follows : —“ In your yesterday’s issue, in an article headed ‘ The Unemployed ’ you state,

‘ Cr. Joyce did not care what the Engineer said, as he (the speaker) knew what work was far better than him (the Engineer,)’ Now, sir, permit me to contradict this. What I did say was, ' I do not care what the Engineer says, I know what a day’s work is just as well as any one here.’ And having the supervision of over 300 men for some years I still maintain what I did say to be correct.”

Order of Druids. — A meeting of the above order was held in the lodge room, Bright Street, last night, when several new members were initiated, and the following officers elected for the ensuing term :—A.D., Bro. Cotter; V.A.D., Bro. Adeane ; Secretary, Bro. C. Fischer ; Treasurer, Bro. Thomas ; A.D. Bards, Bros. Marshall and J. Fisher ; V.A.D. Bards, Bros. Humphreys and Francis; 1.G., Bro. Honeysett; 0.G., Bro. Aggers. Bros. Scott, Webb and Francis were elected Trustees.

R.M. Court.—The undermentioned cases were disposed of this morning:—R. Montmollin v. Tahataha, £2O, nonsuited. In the remainder judgment was given for the amount claimed. A. McKay v. A. Carter, claim £lO 12s; J. Warren v. J. Bidgood, claim £4 16s. 7d.; Colebrook v. Cross, claim £4 10s. 6d.; J. Thompson v. A. Carter, claim £1; J. Adams v. R. Bullen, claim £2 4s. 5d.; James Rosie v. A. Carter, claim £9 Is.; Waldron v. O. Lynch, claim £2 Bs. Tenders. — The following tenders were received at the Cook County Council yesterday for the undermentioned works:—For the delivery of 300 cubic yards of gravel between the Muhunga Bridge and the Chandos Hotel, Ormond—D. Malone at 2s. Bd. per yard, and Bond at 2s. 9d. per yard. For the delivery of 400 yards of gravel between the Quarry Tram and Bruce’s Cutting—D. Malone at 2s. 9d. per yard, and Bond at 2s. 9d. per yard. For the repairing of the road between the Quarry Tram and Waerenga-a-hika —D. Malone, 2s. sd. per yard, and Bond, 2s. 9d. per yard. Mr. Malone’s tender for the three works was accepted, being the lowest. Makaraka.—The Willmott Combination Company proceed to Makaraka to-night, for the purpose of performing there. This will no doubt prove an immense treat to our friends in that locality, who are so seldom visited by such talented companies as the above one. The piece that will be produced is “ Struck Oil,” a celebrated Anglo-Dutch drama founded on incidents which occurred during the American Civil War, and with the scenic properties that the Company possesses this piece will no doubt be put on the stage in a first-class manner, and being of a most amusing and attractive character, we anticipate a crowded house. Gas Company. — The steamer Thomas Russell has been chartered by the Gas Company and is now on her way to Greymouth, where she wil! load with 200 tons of coal direct for this port. This steamer draws but 6ft. of water, so that she will be able to cross the bar, and, if the state of the river will admit of it, come alongside the wharf to unload. It is expected that this steamer will become a regular trader between the Bay and Auckland and elsewhere, carrying live stock from this district. If such a result ensues the community will have something more than “gas” to thank the Gas Company for.

“ Facilis Descensus Averni.”—Such is the title of a new, original, and instructive seriocomic drama, written expressely for his Company, by Mr. Willmott. It is criticised in a very favorable and flattering manner down South. Speaking of it the Otago Daily Times says:—“ Mr. Willmott’s new drama was repeated at the Princess Theatre yesterday evening. The company were more perfect on their lines than was the case on Saturday, and the performance was consequently improved. The spectacular scene at Flemingington racecourse, was also managed with better success, and the two horses which were to form so important a part of the tableau were got upon the stage without much difficulty. This scene was well dressed and mounted, and evoked plenty of applause from the audience.” It has been repeated night after night with great success. As this will be the last appearance of the Company heie, Mr. Willmott intends to reduce the prices of admission to 3s. 2s. and Is.
